Premium on knowledge

‘Nigeria In Our Hands’ was an online forum created by Vincent Nwajiobi. The forum existed for several days and raised many solutions to some contemporary problems. These solutions would be shared on Kalligraphy. Do well to read through, it would worth your while.

This session published here was anchored by Great Chidozie on the forum.

Personal Development is an Action process and it is a continuous process of progressive changes in one's character, skills and principles and it is a willful action.

The Anchor started with a short story which reads;

"The story of two good friends let's call them, Joel and Mike. They grew up in the same neighborhood, went to the same school, studied the same course, and got a job in the same company. But within a few years, Joel is earning two times more than Mike. As you can imagine, he is living a different lifestyle, driving a different kind of car, living in a different neighborhood. With time, Mike became frustrated and decided to confront the manager of his company.

The manager politely asked him to go and ask his friend what he is doing differently. He later discovered that while he was satisfied with what he learnt from school, his buddy was busy learning new ways of doing things, improving his life, skill and it in turn improved all areas of his life. Yeah, he used a magic called personal development"

Great continues;

"What do you think is the difference between these two individuals?
The difference with them is the difference in their decisions, they both had the same amount of time, they both had the same amount of resources but one made the choice to do something that will improve his life while the other was okay with what he had. The truth is this: If you want to be wealthy, healthy and happy, you have to learn how to work harder on yourself than you do on any other thing.

In life; what you become is far more important than what you get.
The most important question to ask in life is not what am I getting? Instead you should ask, what will I become? What you have can be taken from you but what you become remains with till you pass on."

Here are few important points Great also dropped;
•No matter the advancement in technology, your teacher can't take the alphabets he taught you back.
•You can only decide to pass it on to another person
•Why do you think some people earn more than others? The answer is simple; what they know.
•What you have in life is in direct proportion to what you know.
•You can never have more than your level of knowledge.
•The reason some people are successful while others are not, can be traced to what they know.
•The more you know, the more value you'll be able to add to people's life and the more value you'll add to people's lives, the more problem you'll be able to solve and that will reflect on the money you'll earn.
•What makes Obama who he is does not have anything to do with his skin color, it is what he knows that makes the difference.

There are three reasons why people are not making the most of this precious gift;

1. Procrastination:
This is a very dangerous place to be, because of its accumulating nature: when you put off doing some minor things, in doesn't seem to be that a big deal. When you skip some tasks during the day, it doesn't seem like a bad day. But enough of those days piled up, you're guaranteed of a disastrous consequences.

2. Blame:
When you blame someone or something, you are taking away your ability to make anything good from that situation. I will advise you quite the blame club and join the league of people who grabs the bull by the horn. That way you'll be able to see what needs to be improved in your life.

3. Excuses:
 This is a close relative to blame, I think it is the cousin. When you make excuses, you'll not see what you can do or what you'll work on to better improve yourself. You either make excuses or you create results, you can't have both.

Great continues:

Before we move to the brainstorming section on how this will help solve problems, let me give you the areas of our lives that we need to constantly be developing. There are areas you'll need to work on to have an awesome life time on this planet.
1. Spiritual development.
2. Physical development.
3. Mental development.

What do you think you need to get started on your way to personal development?
Growth is an irreversible increase in size, development is a reversible increase in knowledge. Development is a deliberate move that has to do with different phases which includes identity, understanding your identity, knowing what you want and equipping yourself to get better towards getting what you want. In other words, Development starts with identity. If you don't know yourself, you can't develop personally.

Other notable points include;
• Reading books or having experiences does not make anyone developed. Personal development is subjective and not objective. It does not have a particular definition. It is the context that determines its usage.

Great Chidozie asked: Do you think that by getting yourself involved with personal development, you will be able to solve any problem we are facing at any level?

Responses:

"I (responder) think those who wish to develop themselves personally are those who aspire to be entrepreneurs. An entrepreneurs are those who see a need and fill it and in turn create profit for themselves. So I (responder) believe we have to look at our society now. Discover a need and provide it. While satisfying a need we could be enriching ourselves."

"The economy of this nation depends so much on what is generated in this country, so I (Responder) think that when someone develops his/herself he will become an expert in his chosen field and his expertise will attract people from far and near. This will reflect to his bank statement."

"When you get into personal development, you develop skills in which you will use to train others and when you train others you develop their skills, thereby chasing away unemployment and laziness in our country"

Thanks for reading, please share and help others develop.

Coming up next on Kalligraphy;

‘Mama Nkechi’; a short story

‘There was a day Papa Nkechi had to go round the neighborhood to beg the neighbors around to join him beg his wife. Of course, no body followed him except my Papa. Papa almost got his fair share of the beating that day. He walked in majestically with a white and oversized T-shirt to beg the monster lady, but he eventually ran out, screaming like a drenched goat, with a partially torn singlet’. STAY TUNED
